Sport or Adventure

In the first post about my recent trip to join the All Missouri Shop Hop, I shared the fun my sister and I had joining in the quilter’s shop hop. I began thinking how much like a sport a shop hop can be for the participants.

A sport, as defined in the Oxford Languages Dictionary, is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes for entertainment. Well, there you go, quilter’s participating in a shop hop certainly meet all the above. Shop hopping is physical–in and out of vehicles, long rides, in and out of shops, quickly moving from display shelf to display shelf to seek just the right fabric.

Seeking just the right fabric requires a skill in itself. And why do we compete? The fun and the entertainment of it all. We hop in teams, individually, with family, and with our significant others. We collect our patches of honor–we are WINNERS! Yes, shop hopping is like no other sport, but a sport none-the-less.

You can also be a winner by joining my newsletter to receive a freebie, fabric discount codes, traveling news, and loads of fun by tapping here.

I can’t go any further without addressing the adventure aspect. Ohhh, the adventure of shop hopping as a quilter. Meeting shop owners and other shoppers, just searching for that all important fat quarter, the excitement of the unknown of each new shop we enter. All adventures. I hope you enjoy the rest of the quilter’s shop hop pictures as much as we enjoyed our adventure in taking them.

Quilter’s shop hop, sport or adventure, in this case both! The wonderful person manning the shop made sure I received my fat quarter prize. How much more sport or adventure could you get–actually stepping outside the door to offer my prize. I love the kindness of quilting shop folks.

Stashworthy Fabrics is located in Parkville, Mo. Parkville is a quaint little town on the Missouri River. This wonderful shop keeper was so nice to talk to and we found out that the shop had not been open in that town for very long. As I stated in my prior post about the All Missouri Shop Hop my sister and I attended, I am presenting the shops we visited in no particular order. Read on to discover more about the adventure of the sport!

Nine Patch Quilt Shop Troubles During Quilter’s Shop Hop

The afternoon we visited Nine Patch, the owner met us at the door to inform us that the floor was being redone and the epoxy smell was very overpowering. We decided to continue the sport and adventure by entering at our own “risk”. Yes, the odor was overpowering, but I wouldn’t have missed this little personable shop for anything. It was too cute and had a lot to offer.

Although I would have liked to shop longer, the odor was just too much and we quickly purchased a few items and as we started to exit, the owner apologized and sent us next door to the kitchen supply store. Shop owners are just like that–promoting other shops in their respective towns. This stop was the best stocked kitchen shop I have been in and the owner was so helpful. And people wonder why you should shop small, shop local! Of course, we both purchased something in this shop as well.

We started the day at Glenda’s just outside Saint Joseph where we stayed the night before in the Chase Mansion. Check out the Chase Mansion by reading the post I mentioned in the above paragraph. If you ever visit the area, the Chase Mansion is a wonderful place to stay. Anyway, as we arrived, so did around six additional cars of shop hoppers. Glenda’s is a small, but memorable shop, so that many people was a bit overwhelming. We all just took a breather and Glenda was able to call in reinforcements and the day was saved. I truly enjoyed visiting with Glenda, she is very sweet.

We then headed to We’re Sew Crazy Quilt Shop in Savannah, MO. This shop had an open airy feel and we both enjoyed it. I purchased a panel–which I don’t usually purchase. I saw an example on the wall and absolutely loved the design.

Quick Visits to Two Shops

At the Lake Quilts pictured above was a quick stop! We were running late in the day and I called ahead and the owner graciously stayed late for us to stop by the shop. We purchased a few things from her, but the memorable part of the visit was just that, the visit. She is so accommodating. It was such a pleasure to visit with her.

We also made a quick stop at Quilter’s Station. So big and so much fabric–everywhere!

This shop had many great displays consisting of wonderful projects that served to make me jealous. I wanted one of each–finished that is–since I would never have the time or inclination to finish them! Just one of the downfalls of being more of a fabric collector instead of an avid quilter.

At Top Stitch Quilt Shop, I not only enjoyed visiting with the owner, I was also able to purchase this wonderful panel to make a count-down to Christmas calendar. It is made to hold treats for the kids. I have always wanted to make one of these, but never have had the time to design one and make it. This one is great because it is pre-printed with a cute Christmas motif. You simply connect the sewing dots to make the pockets-GENIUS!

Last, but not least, and actually the first shop I visited on the quilter’s shop hop, is Current River Fabrics and Quilting. This shop is located in the hills near Current River. You won’t be sorry if you ever get the time to visit this shop.

Doniphan also has a great place to eat called the Lemonade Grill. There was three in our party the day we visited and all our food was hot and delicious.

Quilter’s Shop Hop End of My Travels for Now

Well, that’s the end of this trip! One thing I will always remember is the sister time. Family is so important as are the memories that are made along the way. As I posted on Facebook, the participants of the quilter’s shop hop single-handedly enriched a state’s economy while enjoying a sport and adventure.
